Who were they?

Have you visited the Aquarium? What is your favourite type of fish? Gosse was religious and very interested in science. He invented seawater aquariums.

What did they do?

Do you know what the Very Hungry Caterpillar grew up to be in the story? Gosse was very interested in butterflies as well as fish. He wrote letters to a famous scientist called Charles Darwin, but they did not agree!

When they lived

Gosse was another very famous Victorian. Do you know any other famous scientists who lived here at that time? Gosse met and married a lady when he lived in Torquay. They were very happy living here.

Interesting fact

Phillip Henry Gosse had a son called Edmund Gosse who became a famous writer and poet.
